SPRING VALLEY - Full-day kindergarten could be up and running for all students in the East Ramapo School District by the end of the month.

Over $3 million in state funding was just allocated to the district, and some of the money will provide full-day kindergarten and the ability to hire teachers. The rest will go to art programs.

Dozens of parents turned out to a hearing last night. They say they're boycotting half-day kindergarten this week because only 156 out of more than 600 children were selected to have a full day of class. “I can't believe that this country, the United States of America, has a lottery for education of the children. I can't believe it," says parent Washington Sanchez.

The East Ramapo School Board and the education commissioner must sign off on the state funding.
