MONSEY - A Monsey landlord is under fire for allegedly allowing a New Jersey complex he owns to deteriorate to the point where residents are being forced to move out.

News 12 followed inspectors and officials as they swept through the Garden Spires Apartments in Newark. The housing complex and an allegedly filthy supermarket beneath it are owned by First King Properties LLC, registered to a mansion in Monsey.

Among the issues cited were non-functioning elevators and a lack of lighting in some hallways.

News 12 tried to contact the owner at his Monsey mansion, but the person who responded at the door had no comment.

New Jersey officials say the 400 or so tenants of the complex may have to relocate during repairs at the owner's expense.

The supermarket was shut down because of its allegedly deplorable conditions. Officials will be performing more inspections this week.
