NBA star Ben Gordon returns to Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON - One of Mount Vernon's most famous natives is back in his hometown today.

NBA star Ben Gordon got a heroes welcome as he returned to his former school, Longfellow Elementary, to promote his first ever "Slam Dunk for Education" this weekend.

Gordon will be meeting with students and school officials today in hopes of inspiring students to do great things. There will also be an awards ceremony tonight to recognize students with perfect attendance records.

Tomorrow there will be a clinic for students in grades three through eight and a basketball game between students and faculty. In the afternoon, Gordon will be inducted into the Mount Vernon Sports Hall of Fame.
