New leadership takes office across Hudson Valley

Several communities throughout the Hudson Valley have are beginning the new year with new leaders at the helm.Nowhere is change more evident than in Yonkers.

YONKERS - Several communities throughout the Hudson Valley have are beginning the new year with new leaders at the helm.

Nowhere is change more evident than in Yonkers. Democratic Mike Spano, who was sworn in as mayor Jan. 1, continues to build his administration. Spano has already named all his new department heads and recently made three new hires. Former Westchester County Legislator Jose Alvarado will join Spano's staff as the special assistant for Consituent Services. Former Conservative Party Chairwoman Gail Burns will now serve as head of constituent services and Francesca Diaz was hired as an executive secretary.

Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo?s special election to fill Spano's Assembly seat will officially be held on March 20.

On the county level, four new legislators officially joined the Westchester County Board last night. Democrats Virginia Perez and Catherine Borgia along with Republicans Mike Smith and David Gelfarb were all sworn into office. The new members mean the Democrats no longer hold a supermajority. The board now boasts 10 Democrats and seven Republican members.
