MELVILLE - New York Democrats are heading to Long Island this week for the state convention, one week after Republicans held their own.
Westchester Democratic Chairman Reginald Lafayette, also the Vice Chair of the New York State Democratic Committee, says party members are excited to re-elect Gov. Andrew Cuomo to a second term.
As for a running mate, Lafayette says Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown is on the short list. Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy announced last week he would be stepping down at the end of the year.

Lafayette called Cuomo's first term "a record of accomplishment," referring to the legalization of same-sex marriage, passing stricter gun laws and rebuilding the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The Republicans formally nominated Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino as their candidate for governor last week at their convention in Rye Brook.
