NEWBURGH - Newburgh community members gathered at the Baptist Temple on Monday to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and help pass on his message to younger generations.

The group sang, prayed and held workshops, where they not only discussed Dr. King’s life but also the landmark Supreme Court case of Brown v. The Board of Education.

This May will mark six decades since the landmark case, which is considered one of the greatest victories of the Civil Rights movement.

A community member who spoke with News 12 says it’s important to remember and honor the people who fought for equality.
