Jonathan Jacobson wins Newburgh mayoral primary

Newburgh Democratic Committee leader Jonathan Jacobson beat out incumbent Mayor Judy Kennedy for their party's nomination in the mayoral primary Thursday.

NEWBURGH - Newburgh Democratic Committee leader Jonathan Jacobson beat out incumbent Mayor Judy Kennedy for their party's nomination in the mayoral primary Thursday.

Three Democratic candidates took part in the race. 

Kennedy had a strong lead over her two challengers early in the counting, but Jacobson came back to win the nomination with 46 percent of the vote.

Kennedy finished with 39 percent.

Civil rights activist Omar Shakur rounded out the ballot with 15 percent of the vote.
