HAVERSTRAW - An NYPD detective from Haverstraw is being hailed a hero for saving a pregnant woman from drowning while vacationing in Cancun.

Earlier this month, 26-year-old Maribel Esparaza was close to drowning in the ocean when NYPD Detective Nicholas Estavillo jumped in to save her.

Maribel was 6 months pregnant.

If the baby is a boy, Esperaza is considering naming him Nicholas, after her hero.
