TUXEDO - Police say one person has died and several were taken to the hospital after a bus and car collided in Tuxedo.

Police say the car was traveling northbound on Route 17 around 10:30 a.m. when the male driver lost control and crossed into the southbound lanes. They say the driver died at the scene and was about 21 years old.

Authorities say about 40 passengers were taken to a nearby school to get out of the cold after the incident. A Good Samaritan Hospital spokesperson told News 12 that nine passengers were taken to the Suffern facility. They did not need to be admitted.

Short Line Bus issued a statement saying that it is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Route 17 was closed for hours after the incident. Police say it appears to be a snow-related accident. There were no charges.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim.
