MONROE - An Orange County athlete has been handpicked out of thousands to appear on a new NBC show.

Kevin Donoghue, of Monroe, will be among the few to compete in the new "Spartan Ultimate Team Challenge."

The show features friends, relatives and co-workers who tackle obstacle races designed to test physical and mental limits. "You are going to see people pushed to their absolute physical limit. You're going to see people, who for their whole lives thought they were weak and powerless, all of a sudden become empowered," says Donoghue.

Donoghue was chosen to coach one of three teams competing for a cash prize. "The biggest blessing was the four people I was able to be coach for, that I was given the opportunity to lead."

The show taped in December and will air in June.
