MIDDLETOWN - Orange County police say a vandal spray-painted offensive graffiti throughout a Middletown neighborhood this week.

The vandalism included at least one reference to the Ku Klux Klan, investigators say.

It appeared on abandoned houses in the neighborhood.

Residents say the neighborhood has become increasingly diverse. They want the graffiti removed and the suspect caught.

So far, police say they are not investigating the spray-painting spree as a hate crime. They say the racial reference may have been a statement about racism in America, rather than a racist attack.
