HAVERSTRAW - Organizations in Rockland County met in Haverstraw Monday to discuss the controversial hangings of dummies in Spring Valley.

Both incidents happened around the Jewish holiday of Purim. The Hasidic community says the hanging is part of the Jewish commemoration of the holiday, and the doll symbolizes the death of the ancient oppressor Haman.

Many people found the hangings offensive, so much so that members of the NAACP and Jewish Federation of Rockland County are meeting so it doesn't happen again.

The meeting at Haverstraw Town Hall was a chance for the leaders to keep the lines of communication open and welcome ways to introduce multicultural education within their communities.
