HAVERSTRAW - Veterans in the Hudson Valley will soon have a place to reflect and remember their fallen comrades.

Veterans joined local politicians for a groundbreaking ceremony at Haverstraw Bay County Park yesterday.

The site is across from the village's 9/11 memorial. It honors local service members who died serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. "To have it here in Haverstraw in the shadow of the 9/11 memorial is a perfect connection because many of these young people volunteered because of the attacks on our country in 2001," says Rockland County Executive Ed Day.

West Point cadets will design the memorial. It's expected to be complete within a few months.
