NEW WINDSOR - A pilot practicing maneuvers for the New York Air Show was killed in a plane crash at Stewart International Airport, according to state police.

The incident occurred while pilot Andrew Wright, of Texas, was practicing a pinwheel maneuver shortly after he took off at 2 p.m. The crash was caught on cellphone video.

State police say the aircraft appeared to have a "structural failure" in the moments before it crashed.

Officials say Wright was the only person in the Giles G-202 single-engine plane at the time.

The FAA, state police and county officials are investigating the crash.

Practice flights for the air show were suspended after the crash, but the show will carry on despite the accident, according to officials.
