NEWBURGH - A Hudson Valley police chief pleaded not guilty to domestic dispute charges, allegedly involving his children, in Newburgh court on Monday.

Investigators say Plattekill Police Chief Joseph Ryan terrorized his two teenage kids and broke a bedroom door during an alleged drunken rage. Police say Ryan's children barricaded themselves inside a bedroom with a kitchen knife during the incident last month.

Ryan’s attorney says the allegations are false. "His family supports him. He's looking forward to being together with family. The judge modified the order of protection in effect, so today was a positive step in the right direction," says attorney Brandon Ozman.

Ryan is due back in court in February for his trial. Until then, the chief is on paid administrative leave from the Plattekill Police Department.
