KIRYAS JOEL - A suspect is under arrest after allegedly stabbing a man with an ice pick inside an ultra-Orthodox synagogue in Kiryas Joel.

Police say the victim had just finished praying when he was attacked inside the place of worship.

The suspect, Jae Kyung Lee, was quickly taken out of the Charidim Synagogue on Van Buren Drive in handcuffs.

Police say 56-year-old Lee, who lives in Monroe, is a janitor there. He allegedly attacked 35-year-old worshipper Eliezer Wolner during a dispute.

Police say the attack does not appear to be a hate crime and the victim was treated at the scene.

Despite the commotion, the synagogue is open.

Lee is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
