HIGHLANDS - Police say an Orange County man held an elderly veteran captive in a motel room for four years.

Highlands police say Perry Coniglio held U.S. Navy veteran David McClellan captive using fear and intimidation tactics to steal his pension checks for drugs.

Police say he beat and starved the 81-year-old veteran, who has dementia, at the U.S. Academy Motel.

Neighbors tell News 12 that McClellan was held captive for years in a room used for motel storage, but cost the victim $1,200 a month.

The motel's owner said he knew nothing of the alleged abuse.

McClellan was taken to the hospital and is now being cared for by adult protective services. His alleged captor in is jail, and police say they expect at least one more arrest.
