POMONA - A Pomona man is being hailed as a hero Saturday night after he talked a woman out of jumping off of the Tappan Zee Bridge to her death.

Ed Joseph was driving northbound on the bridge when he noticed a woman had pulled her car over and was soon dangling from the ledge. Joseph says the woman was talking on her cell phone with her husband who had just served her with divorce papers.

Officials say the Assistant Business Superintendent at Greenburgh Schools was able to persuade the distraught woman to give him the phone. Joseph says when the woman went to jump over, he held onto her arm for a good five minutes until police and another motorist came to help.

Police say the Yorktown woman was taken to Nyack Hospital for observation and evaluation. No charges have been filed.
