RAMAPO - FBI agents arrested two high-ranking Ramapo officials on corruption charges early Thursday morning.

Ramapo Town Supervisor Christopher St. Lawrence was arrested at his home in Suffern, while Aaron Troodler, the former executive director of the Ramapo Local Development Corporation, was arrested at his Pennsylvania home.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara says the arrests were made after a three-year probe into the finances of Ramapo's baseball stadium Provident Bank Park, the home field of the Rockland Boulders.

St. Lawrence and Troodler were arraigned Thursday in White Plains Federal Court, charged with 22 counts of fraud and conspiracy. They both could face up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say a whistle blower alerted them to the alleged fraud carrying a price tag of $150 million.

Authorities say fake accounting statements were manipulated so the town could fund the minor league stadium, which misled investors.

"The town was in the red, not in the black as the cooked books were showing," says Bharara.

Authorities say the allegations could lead the town to more debt, with the stadium losing money and creating hardships for the community.

Both men pleaded not guilty before being released on $500,000 bail.
