THIELLS - Some people living near a proposed Legoland amusement park in Rockland County say they are opposed to the plan.

That proposed location is Letchworth Village in Thiells. The village was a controversial facility for the physically and mentally disabled. It was abandoned almost 20 years ago after being forced to close in the face of reforms.

Even though the park's developer has plans to upgrade nearby roads, residents say they are still concerned about increased traffic, decreased property values and the disruption of their natural surroundings.

The land is owned by the Town of Haverstraw, but county officials say they want to make sure a Legoland is the right use for the land.

Opponents say they have already acquired 700 signatures on an online petition against Legoland.
