SPRING VALLEY - A Rockland County public defender ended up in jail Thursday with his client after authorities say he showed up for court drunk.

Rockland assistant public defender John Murray is accused of showing up to a client's DWI arraignment drunk. The 51-year-old attorney is accused of being belligerent and disrespecting the judge.

The judge charged Murray with contempt and ordered him to jail alongside his client Priya Paul-David, who is accused of driving drunk with her kids in the car. David made bail and Murray stayed in jail overnight.

Murray apologized to the judge Friday and was released from jail. Murray later resigned from his job.
