Rockland man lucky to be alive after gas meter accident

CENTRAL NYACK - A Rockland County man is lucky to be alive today after he rammed his car into a gas meter this morning.

Police say Colin Pohl was leaving his driveway on 64 West Broadway in Central Nyack around 9 a.m. when he hit the line on the side of his house. "My tire hit the gas pipe, basically ripped out the pipe. It was shooting out a lot of gas," says Pohl.

Orange & Rockland Utility workers were able to shut the gas off quickly and were able to re-attach the pipe to the meter.

Officials say there were no evacuations or injuries.
