Schumer warns FDA on danger of newest painkillers

ALBANY - New York Sen. Charles Schumer is warning federal officials that a new batch of super painkillers now under review could lead to violent robberies.

Schumer is urging the Food and Drug Administration to take extra care as it considers approving the drugs. He says the painkillers contain ingredients that would make them 10 times as strong as Vicodin.

Schumer is also concerned that the powerful drugs would be prized on the black market.

The drug maker says pure hydrocodone is actually safer since large doses of acetaminophen can damage your liver.
