Soldiers from the area bid farewell to loved ones in Newburgh

NEWBURGH - Hundreds of people gathered in Newburgh yesterday to bid farewell to the soldiers from the area who were deployed to Afghanistan. Emotional good-byes were said throughout Stewart Air Guard Base before the 450 soldiers of the 101st National Guard Battalion took their leave. The soldiers will set up satellite technology for the military units in Afghanistan. The battalion will continue to train at Fort Bliss, Texas for the next month until heading to Afghanistan. The 101st Battalion is expected to spend around 9 months in the war zone.
