SOMERS - Students in Somers spread the love this Valentine's Day by giving back to the community.

Valentine's Day means more than chocolates and flowers to the first and second-graders at Primrose Elementary. The kids are making comfort packages for kids in need. Each special package contains a pillow, blanket, books and a teddy bear. "Because if people don't have anything, they'll be sad; so we're giving them the care kits," says first-grader Isabela Collins.

The American Red Cross will distribute the packages to other children in New York who have lost everything.

These special acts of kindness have a deeper meaning for many at the school. The project honors Stephanie Crispinelli, a graduate from Primrose Elementary, who was 19 when she lost her life in the Haiti earthquake while on a mission trip.

This is the sixth year students have spent their Valentine's Day creating the kits in honor of Stephanie, helping her spirit live on. "It's Stephanie's birthday tomorrow, so we combined the two things in her honor. I know she is smiling down on us," says Stephanie’s mom Lin Crispinelli.
