NEWBURGH - Shootouts, police chases, home invasions and pistol-whippings have all been reported within the last several days in the city of Newburgh, but a source alleges that crime in the city may be even worse than it seems.

A source on the city's front lines says Newburgh is withholding information from the media to cover up how bad its crime really is, in an effort to improve its image.

Newburgh Police Chief Michael Ferrara denies the allegations, calling them "completely untrue."

News 12 reached out to officials at Newburgh City Hall, but they were unavailable for comment.

The city's police union says Newburgh needs to wake up and beef up its police force.
