WHITE PLAINS - Sources tell News 12 that Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino will officially announce his run for governor this week.

The two-term Republican has been hinting that he will run, but hasn't publicly announced it yet. Sources say that at the start of the weekend, he informed his staff and close advisors that he will be running on the Republican ticket to take on Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Reaction from Westchester voters was mixed, with many supporting his decision to run and calling him a good candidate. However, others criticized him for running for governor just months after being re-elected as county executive.

Sources tell News 12 an official announcement from Astorino could come as early as Wednesday.
