SPRING VALLEY - The head Spring Valley building inspector was arrested Thursday for allegedly allowing a property owner to illegally run two day care centers.

Walter Booker, 54, is facing 10 felony charges, including official misconduct, grand larceny and falsifying business records.

Booker is accused of giving a single-family village property a two-family certificate of occupancy, allowing that owner to run two day care centers and take in tens of thousands in tax exemptions.

Booker's attorney says his client is innocent and that the allegations are the latest in a longstanding feud between Booker and Mayor Demeza Delhomme.

Delhomme tried demoting Booker in 2014 and later suspended him following a personal dispute and a state report that found flaws in the way the building department was managed.

A court ruling allowed Booker to return and Delhomme has since been accused of improperly ordering a Yeshiva permit.

Both officials remain working across the hall from each other until further notice.

Delhomme called for a special meeting Thursday night to address the allegations against Booker, but none of the board members showed up.
