HUDSON VALLEY - The sentencing for a Spring Valley high school student who stabbed a fellow student last year took place Friday.

Christopher Bermeo received six months in jail and five years probation. The judge granted Bermeo youthful offender status.

Bermeo was charged with felony, robbery and assault last March when he was accused of stabbing a fellow student in school. Earlier this year, he entered guilty pleas to assault and attempted robbery charges. Prosecutors then agreed to the sentence of six months in jail with probation.

Bermeo was accompanied by his mother and stepfather in court. His lawyer, Benjamin Greenwald, says his client is using the lenient sentence to turn his life around.
