Suspicious package prompts ferry shutdown in Newburgh

Newburgh police were called the waterfront near the entrance to the ferry Wednesday night due to a suspicious package.

Ferry service was shut down for nearly two hours during the investigation.

NEWBURGH - Newburgh police were called the waterfront near the entrance to the ferry Wednesday night due to a suspicious package.

Ferry service was shut down for nearly two hours during the investigation.

Five trips were canceled during the evening commute as well.

The package turned out to be an empty metal suitcase that was left on the dock.

Investigators gave the all clear just before 9 p.m.
