POMONA - The company that pulled out of a deal worth more than $30 million to take control of Summit Park Hospital in Pomona is blaming Rockland County officials for the transaction's collapse.

Sympaticare canceled its bid in an email just hours before the sale would have closed.

"We kept reaching out to the county," says representative Shully Braunstein. "Not only were they not willing to negotiate, they didn't even respond."

Braunstein says the company "did not walk away from this deal," but instead found that the county was not willing to comply with terms in the contract.

On the other hand, Rockland County Executive Ed Day has blamed the failure on Sympaticare.

He criticized the company for taking its grievances to social media and the press rather than sitting down at the negotiating table.

If no new buyer is found, 288 full-time workers could lose their jobs, and 170 patients will have to relocate.
