High school student takes own life

Tappan Zee High School in Orangeburg was on lockout Wednesday after a student apparently took his own life across the street from the school.

ORANGEBURG - Tappan Zee High School in Orangeburg was on lockout Wednesday after a student apparently took his own life across the street from the school.

Police say the unidentified student shot himself in the residential area across the street from school grounds at around 1 p.m.

The lockout was lifted at the school's normal release time.

Classes at Tappan Zee High School will resume Thursday. Grief counselors will be available for students and staff.
