Teacher's assistant William Cradle arrested for allegedly endangering the welfare of a child at White Plains Highlands Middle School

WHITE PLAINS - A White Plains teacher's assistant is under arrest after police say he displayed "inappropriate behavior" in the classroom.

William Cradle, 67, is a teacher's assistant at White Plains Highlands Middle School, where he's worked for 21 years. Police did not elaborate about the incident, but say it happened on April 24 and involved a 14-year-old female student. Police add it was witnessed by other students in the class.

After the alleged incident, the student reported it to school officials. Cradle was later arrested for endangering the welfare of a child.

White Plains Superintendent Tom Connors says Cradle has been suspended without pay and the district is still investigating the incident.

News 12 was unsuccessful trying to reach Cradle for comment. He is due in court on June 3.
