Tension running high between Newburgh officials, Lembhard family

NEWBURGH - A news conference at Newburgh's City Hall got heated today between the family of Michael Lembhard and Newburgh city officials.

The groups met over recent violence in the city, culminating with Lembhard's cousin and brother under arrest earlier in the week.

Mayor Judy Kennedy expressed anger and disgust at the press conference over the violence against her city's firefighters and police officers by the same people they're sworn to protect and serve.

While Mayor Kennedy did not mention any names, the Lembhard family allegedly felt Kennedy was pointing the finger of blame on them, in light of the recent arrest of Lembhard's brother.

On Monday evening, dozens gathered for a peaceful rally in honor of Michael Lembhard, the young father gunned down by police in March.

After the rally wrapped up, a group of young men and women lit a bonfire. When firefighters showed up, people allegedly threw bricks and rocks at them.

Police say that one of those brick throwers was one of the Lembhard brothers, Donald Lembhard.

He was arrested and released on Tuesday. Rally held for Michael Lembhard takes a violent turn
