HAVERSTRAW - A tractor-trailer flipped on a road in Haverstraw, spilling sand in the process and shutting down traffic Tuesday.

According to police, the driver, who was coming from a nearby quarry, was trying to make a turn up a steep hill on Short Clove Road toward Route 9W when he lost control of the vehicle. Sand that was being transported in the tractor-trailer spilled on the roadway when the tractor-trailer came to rest on its side on the road.

Crews were at the scene this afternoon cleaning up sand from this morning's accident, and the tractor-trailer was being towed away.

The driver, who didn't need treatment, was walking around the scene of the accident.

Authorities say the roadway isn't particularly dangerous, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
