WALDEN - Walden Fire Department responded to a five-alarm fire that destroyed a Valley Avenue home Wednesday.

Officials say the fire started in the attic, just before noon and quickly spread through the back of the house, and down into the basement.

News 12 spoke with a neighbor who says he found the homeowner in the basement trying to put out the blaze.

The homeowner did get out safely, however neighbors say three dogs died in the fire.
