Washingtonville man drowns while saving kids in Puerto Rico

A Washingtonville man drowned this weekend while vacationing in Puerto Rico. Joe Rosario was taken under by a riptide in Puerto Rican waters Saturday.

WASHINGTONVILLE - A Washingtonville man drowned this weekend while vacationing in Puerto Rico.

Joe Rosario was taken under by a riptide in Puerto Rican waters Saturday. He jumped in to assist his 12-year-old son and two of his friends. His body was reportedly found by the Coast Guard Monday morning.

Loved ones say Rosario was a longtime Little League coach and retired NYPD officer.

Rosario is survived by his wife and two children.
