YONKERS - The Westchester County Parks Department recently ordered the deaths of 500 geese that were leaving unpleasant surprises on the Sprain Lake Golf Course. County officials say that at the start of the summer, the geese were depositing hundreds of pounds of feces on the grounds. The issue prompted the department to round up nearly 500 Canada geese, ship them upstate and euthanize them. However, after safety inspectors check the meat, the birds will be sent to the Food Bank of Westchester to help feed the hungry.
