YONKERS - A storm that many hoped would bypass the Hudson Valley instead packed quite a punch to the region.

News 12 Meteorologist Joe Rao says that while the main thrust of the snowstorm was well to the south of the area, it nevertheless brought moderate to heavy snowfall for most of the day.

Rao says most of Rockland and Westchester counties got between 4 and 6 inches of accumulation, and the I-84 corridor got 2 to 4 inches. He expects the snow to totally clear the region by 8 p.m.

However, winter isn’t done yet. Arctic cold will rush in behind the snow, bringing temperatures down into the 20s for the next two days. Rao warns that the cold air will freeze any standing water or slush creating black ice conditions on roadways.

The end of the cold weather may be in sight, as temperatures are expected to gradually rise starting this weekend and may make it into the high 40s or low 50s next week.
