Nearly 1,300- cadet candidates are being welcomed on "Reception Day." (6/27/16)

WEST POINT - West Point welcomed a new class of cadets Monday morning.

The U.S. Military Academy took in nearly 1,300 cadet candidates on Reception Day.

The group will begin six weeks of rigorous training to get them used to military life. Afterward, they will then be formally welcomed into the corps' Class of 2020.

The candidates were selected from a pool of nearly 16,000 applicants.

Part of the introduction to the military included a new haircut.

The cadets include 282 women. There also are 15 from other countries, including Pakistan, South Korea and Turkey.
