YONKERS - State Sen. Greg Ball's (R-40th District) decision to not seek re-election has Westchester Republicans undecided on who to pick as the replacement candidate for his seat.
Ball's choice to succeed him on the ballot is Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy, but former state Assemblyman Robert Castelli also wants to be the nominee. Castelli says Ball's announcement does not give party leaders time to consider other candidates, as Ball was supposed to have been nominated at the county's Republican Convention tonight, and wants the vote to be delayed.
With more than one candidate vying for the nomination, a primary could result. Murphy says any nominee should have the entire party's support and thinks a primary could affect that negatively.

At the Republican Committee Convention Monday evening, a motion was made to delay the decision on Ball's replacement until May 28. As of 11 p.m., the vote was still going on.
