WARWICK - A woman says she is lucky to be alive after an explosion sent her airborne into the front yard of her Pine Island home on Tuesday.

Denise Kunish says she was alone in her home at 91 Walling Road when she noticed a strange odor in the house around 3:30 p.m.

She says she was opening windows in the home to ventilate the house when she blacked out.  When she woke up, she found herself in the front yard beneath debris. Her neighbors heard the explosion and helped get her out from the rubble.

Authorities say her kids were on their way home on the school bus and her husband was still at work.

Authorities say the cause of the explosion is unknown, but that a possible methane gas leak, not propane as first reported, is being looked into since work was done on their septic tank days before.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family. So far, about $100,000 has been raised.
