MIDDLETOWN - An Orange County man is recovering after being disfigured in a fire extinguisher explosion last week in Middletown.

Authorities say two men -- Frank Buono, 23, and Christopher Foust, 35 -- were filling a fire extinguisher at Oprandy's Fire and Safety Equipment on Friday when it somehow ruptured.

Goshen Police Sgt. Allen Faust, who is Buono's uncle, says he quickly texted Buono after hearing about the accident. Buono called him back a few minutes later saying that he lost his leg. Foust was also severely injured in the blast, losing both his legs.

Faust says Buono has undergone two surgeries, and doctors are optimistic that he might be able to keep his knee.

Buono's family says he is grateful for the outpouring of support from other family members, friends and the community.

State police are still investigating the incident.
