Yonkers aims to improve quality of life through neighborhood groups

YONKERS - A new program has been launched using the city's resources to form partnerships with local neighborhood groups.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, with the help of community leaders, kicked off what's being called "Yonkers Neighborhood Protection Partnership." The new program will coordinate with the NYPD's mobile command center as well as other city agencies.

The partnership program also calls for organized neighborhood cleanups and regular neighborhood forums between city officials and resident groups.

Spano says the program will eventually spread to other neighborhoods around the city.
