YONKERS - Republicans on the Yonkers City Council are calling for teachers union officials to resign following the release of a controversial video by a conservative journalist.

The video was secretly recorded by conservative journalist James O'Keefe, who posed as a Yonkers teacher. O'Keefe spoke to two top officials with the Yonkers Federation of Teachers union, including President Pat Puleo, and suggested that he used racial slurs and assaulted a student.

"I watched the video and saw very clearly the leadership of the YFT counseling corruption and cover-up of child abuse," says Yonkers City Council President Liam McLaughlin. "It can't be tolerated."

On Thursday, McLaughlin and three other Republicans called for the two union leaders to be fired. They are also calling on the inspector general to launch an investigation.

News 12 has learned the American Federation of Teachers, the top teachers union in the nation, is launching its own investigation into the matter.
