YONKERS - A Yonkers contractor is under arrest in connection with fire at an apartment building that left dozens of families homeless in Queens Tuesday evening.

Police say Declan McElhatton, 53, has been charged with arson and reckless endangerment.

Officials say flames sparked and ripped through a seven-story building at 94th Street and 57th Avenue after McElhatton left an open flame next to combustible materials.

More than 200 firefighters responded, and 11 of them suffered minor injuries.
