YONKERS - The Yonkers school board approved its 2015-2016 school budget without any major layoffs.

Officials say thanks to a $25 million bailout by the state, the district was able to avoid cuts within its $551 million spending plan.

That one-time state bailout will be divided over two years.

The district will also receive additional revenue from an increase in the sales tax to make up the difference.

The superintendent says because of the bailout, he is not anticipating cuts for the following school year either.
