Yonkers struggles to clear streets

Many residents in Yonkers are upset with the snow removal efforts of the DPW. Homeowners in the Highland Avenue neighborhood say that snowplows have yet

NYACK - Many residents in Yonkers are upset with the snow removal efforts of the DPW.

Homeowners in the Highland Avenue neighborhood say that snowplows have yet to come around even 24 hours after the snow started falling.

Yonkers DPW Commissioner Tom Meier says the city has a detailed plan of clearing major streets first and then secondary roads. Meier says it's not lack of effort, but just a matter of time before everything is cleaned up. “With our heavy equipment, our front-end loaders, we will be able to break up the ice and open up more and more loads," he says.

Meier adds that rumors of not having enough salt aren't true and that crews have been, and will be, out salting to try and melt the snow.
