NJ explosion kills 1, injures 7
EWING TOWNSHIP - Officials are awaiting autopsy results on a woman who was killed after a gas leak and explosion destroyed at least 10 houses and damaged dozens of others at a townhouse development in New Jersey yesterday.
A spokesperson for PSE&G says crews responded just before noon to a townhouse complex on a report that a gas line was damaged by contractors working on an electrical problem. Crews were working on repairs when the explosion occurred at around 1 p.m. Seven workers were injured.
Officials have not yet identified the victim, who was discovered on a car near the explosion site. They also don't know whether she lived at the development.
A majority of the displaced residents aren't expected to be able to go home until later today at the earliest. Some are being sheltered at a local firehouse, while others stayed overnight with family and friends.
