A nonprofit group from New Jersey will be heading to the Carolinas to help victims of Hurricane Florence with disaster recovery.

Compass 82 was founded in Ocean County after Superstorm Sandy devastated parts of the Jersey Shore. The group assists in natural disaster recovery around the country.

Executive director Sue Marticek says that many storm victims will need help in even basic ways.

“If I could have a magic wand and go back to the beginning of Sandy, I would be yelling from day one: Take pictures of everything that you throw out, because that is the best way to possibly get some type of funding,” she says.

The group was originally known as Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group before it branched out into a national organization.

Marticek says that she hopes that Compass 82 can be on the ground in the Carolinas during the first 90 days of recovery.

Hurricane Florence flooded many areas in North and South Carolina. The storm is being blamed for the deaths of at least 20 people.
